Vanessa Schar - Principal Teacher

Vanessa is the Principal of Vital Movement Studios and has danced for over 25 years. She has had the great privilege of teaching dance for the last 14 years. Vanessa is trained in many dance styles including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre. Vanessa has had professional vocal training, and performed in and choreographed a number of musical theatre productions.

Vanessa has participated and been successful in many dance competitions, as well as CSTD and RAD dance examinations over the years. Vanessa continues to further her skills and update her knowledge by participating in teachers’ workshops and professional development courses every year. Vanessa is a member of the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) and Ausdance.

Vanessa teaches Jazz, Tap, & Contemporary classes to students of all ages. She has always loved to dance and perform growing up; however she has found the most satisfaction from running her own studio. Vanessa teaches competition classes but also loves working with students who join the studio for fun and fitness - especially beginners!

Vanessa's teaching style is positive and energetic with a focus on building dancers who have not only a strong technical foundation but a confident, engaging personality and presence on stage. 

 

Donna Schar - Admin & Relief Teacher

Donna Schar enjoyed teaching Classical Ballet, Stretching, Technique and Conditioning classes to students of all ages and skill levels for many years. Donna is the studio administrator for 2017 and will also take classes as a relief teacher when needed. 

Donna has always had a passion for dancing and believes in the use of positive reinforcement to build children’s self-esteem and confidence. Her unique method of teaching and breaking down movement in a way that is fun and easy to understand, creates smart dancers with an excellent sense of body awareness. 

Donna is excited to continue mentoring our teaching staff in 2017 and sharing her knowledge and passion for dance to all. 


 

Ryan Turner - Open Hip Hop

Ryan is an Adelaide based Teacher and Choreographer who has been dancing for more than 10 years. Ryan is the Co-Founder and Co-Choreographer for multi award-winning Hip Hop crew ADM”Adelaide Dance Movement” and works professionally for local production companies and nightclubs as a performer.

Ryan has taught classes and workshops all over Adelaide and country areas for several years, at various Dance schools, Primary and Secondary schools. He is also a regular teacher and dance educator for full-time dance students.

Ryan teaches the Open Hip Hop class and is keen to teach the students many different styles of Hip Hop and allow them to explore their own individual style whilst increasing their performance qualities and confidence.

 

Natalie Bond - Classical Ballet, Pointe & Contemporary

Natalie has been dancing since the age of 4 where her passion started at a local dance school in Oxfordshire, England. From training in ballet, contemporary, tap and gymnastics over the years her love for dance grew. After finishing high school she furthered her study and passion of dance at OCVC Oxford where she studied and completed a diploma of dance.

At the age of 17 she then moved to Australia where she continued her dance studies at Adelaide college of the Arts. She is currently studying her final year of her Bachelor of Dance degree in dance specialising in contemporary dance. Over the past 2 years Natalie has worked with choreographers Leigh warren, Larissa McGowan, Peter sheedy, Lee Brummer and Israel Aloni, Lewis Major and currently ex ADT company dancers. She enjoys studying contemporary dance everyday and progressing her dance skills and knowledge. She loves to perform and will continue to perform in more contemporary works over this year while in her final year at AC Arts.

She is in her first year of teaching at VMS and enjoys passing her passion and knowledge on to current dancers at the studio. She cannot wait to continue to teach and learn more about dance.

 

 

Katherine Hall - Ballet, Jazz, Pointe & Cardio Barre

Katherine began dancing at age three and has trained here in Adelaide for over fifteen years in many genres of dance. She has trained extensively in the CSTD & RAD syllabi, completing her RAD Advanced 2 and CSTD Premier Dansure, Teacher Certificate and Teachers Diploma. In 2016 Katherine studied full time dance at the Village on Broadway in Sydney and continues to work within the dance industry, performing in professional shows in Adelaide and around Australia. Since returning to Adelaide Katherine has continued to pursue her passion for teaching Katherine enjoys working with children and has found her teaching experiences enriching and valuable. She works hard to ensure that her students are achieving their personal best, while providing them with the skills and training to reach their goals..
 

Jess Vidau - Jazz, Tap & Contemporary

Jess began dancing at age two, training and performing Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Ballet ever since. With a background in many different styles Jess has undertaken CSTD and Glenwood exams to further develop her technique. Jess enjoyed further exploring Hip Hop, Tap and Contemporary whilst completing her Cert II in Dance and her SACE Stage I & II in dance. In 2017 Jess, along with her hip hop team ‘Empress’ competed in the National Dance Star competition and were awarded gold at the Gold Coast finals.

Jess is a very fun, bubbly and outgoing member of our teaching staff and enjoys watching her students grow. Jess’ classes are always filled with fun and determination as she enjoys watching her students achieve whatever they aspire to. Jess hopes to inspire her students to become confident dancers on and off the stage.

 

Murphy Ireland - Acrobatics

Murphy trained in competitive gymnastics for five years and taught age’s 1-12 for two years after that. Along with training in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz, she has also taught her own flexibility, conditioning and acrobatic classes with the aim of allowing students to develop quickly in their chosen sports. Murphy is now an accredited acrobatic dance teacher with the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus.

 

Keira Jenkins - Jazz, Tap & Contemporary

Keira began dancing at the age of 3 and has loved it ever since. She has trained in many styles including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary and Hip Hop and although she enjoys every style she finds her favourites to be Tap and Ballet.

Over the last 2 years Keira has competed in Tap competitions and has loved performing both solo and troupe routines. She loves the energy she gets from performing on stage both for fun and in competitions and hopes to continue performing for many years to come.

Keira enjoys teaching students of all ages and finds it incredibly rewarding knowing she is helping someone achieve their goals. Keira hopes to teach for many years at VMS so she can continue to see people, both young and old, grow as dancers and explore their love of the art.

 

Miss Alexis - Classical Ballet

Alexis Malone is a student teacher here at Vital Movement Studios. Alexis assists with classes of younger ballet students. She has been dancing for most of her life and is very passionate about it. Over the years she has studied various styles including Jazz, Tap, Classical ballet, Musical Theatre and Contemporary. Alexis is a member of the VMS competition team participating in many troupe competitions and also as a soloist. Alexis teaches the Monday Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet classes. 

Teaching at VMS gives her the opportunity to help children develop their love of dance. She feels privileged to see the kids' smiles and enthusiasm each week as well as watching them grow as dancers and as people. Alexis is excited to be assisting classes for many years to come!

Miss Grace - Tap 

Grace has been a dance student since she was five years old and throughout this time has studied Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Hip Hop styles. Grace’s eagerness to learn more has inspired her to expand her knowledge even further and be able to share it with other keen dancers like herself.

For the past few years she has been a student teacher assisting with Jazz, Tap and Contemporary lessons and she has thoroughly enjoyed sharing her passion for dance with the younger students. Grace loves working with the students and assisting them with achieving their desired goals. She finds it rewarding to see the students succeed at something they love. She looks forward to being able to work with even more students at Vital Movement Studios in the future.

 

Micaela Thomas - Hip Hop

Micaela Thomas is one of Adelaide’s most versatile hip hop dancers and teachers. She is a back-to-back state champion hip hop dancer with her crew GroundBreakers, and is also a back-to-back state champion hip hop coach with her junior kids crew BeatBreakers (Pure Funk). Trained in a number of dance styles, Micaela has specialised in all areas of hip hop, commercial, urban and street styles since 2008. 

Micaela has worked with various artists, festivals and production companies, including work for film, television, corporate and charity events. Highlights include performing in shows in Hong Kong and ranking 8th in Australia with GroundBreakers crew. As a freelance teacher of both music and dance, Micaela has taught at various schools and studios in Adelaide. 

Forever a student, Micaela regularly travels internationally to continue learning from the world’s best hip hop dancers. Highlights include learning from her mentors in Japan, Singapore and the Philippines. Micaela also has a Bachelor of Music, a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Languages. She is passionate about education, connecting with young people and sharing her love of the performing arts with others.

 

Miss Chloe - Assistant Teacher

Chloe has been a student at VMS since she was five years old and since that time she has studied Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Pointe. Chloe loves working with the little ones each week, as their enthusiasm and energy is a joy to be around! 

 

Miss Jess - Assistant Teacher

Jess has been a student at VMS since she was four years old starting of with ballet and as the years progressed she studied Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Pointe. Jess competed in many competitions for the VMS team, participating in troupe competitions, duo's and as a soloist. She loves working with and assisting the little ones to create a loving environment.

 

Miss Jordy - Assistant Teacher

Jordy has been dancing at Vital Movement Studios since she was 4 years old and during her time she has studied Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Vocals and Acrobatics. Jordy has competed in competitions as a soloist, in duos and in troupes. She enjoys being on stage and bringing joy to people through dance. Jordy enjoys working with young children to help develop their confidence and skills.

 

Miss Jessi - Assistant Teacher

Jess has been a student at VMS since she was 4 years old, starting out in the Pre-School Ballet class. Jessi now trains in Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Acrobatics, Hip-Hop and Ballet, with Tap being her favourite. Throughout her years at VMS she has participated in many dance competitions in the solo, duo, trio and troupe categories. Jessi is looking forward to teaching the younger VMS students and helping them to reach their full potential.
